No such thing as a Blue Dog Democrat
Well folks, hopefully we West Virginians will not be fooled again. Like with Byrd, Rockefeller and Rahall telling us they were pro-life independent thinkers, and conservative, we saw that when it came down to it, they all voted yes for Obama Care, TARP, Bailouts and other. There is no such thing as a Blue Dog Democrat.
Now pro-life Joe wants our vote. This is a man that held up the arm of Barack Hussein Obama, campaigned for him and supported his agenda. Nick Rahall, too, told us he was pro-life but when it came down to needing the votes, he voted against the will of the people of West Virginia and America and voted for Obama Care. Joe's support of Obama has already given us a pro-abortion Supreme Court Justice Kagan, Obama Care and more...
“Progressive” Democratic governor of New Jersey
The Communist Party has an unparalleled history in the progressive movement of the United States... http://www.cpusa.org/the-party/Dear Comrades -- We have been fighting this fight since before the Reagan years. But we should not lose hope. It's a big historic task that the entire democratic and progressive forces face. It is not a struggle for Socialism per se. But to break the right wing strangle hold on our nation is a strategic struggle that must be won on the road to new freedom and socialism.(Goal of Communist Party)http://www.cpusa.org/the-party/
Formerly one of the most leftwing members of the U.S. Senate
His political life has been plagued by ethics scandals.
http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2083
Jon Corzine, 58, is currently the Democratic governor of New Jersey. A former CEO of the Wall Street investment firm Goldman Sachs, Corzine successfully ran for the New Jersey Senate seat in 2000. Drawing heavily on his campaign war chest, Corzine spent $63 million in the course of the campaign, including $35 million in the primary election alone.
During his years in the Senate, Corzine, in the estimation of the New York Times, “established a reputation as one of the Senate's most liberal members.” A former contributor to the leftwing website the Huffington Post and a self-styled “progressive,” Corzine has defended unsustainable Social Security benefits and opposed tax cuts intended to spur economic growth. He also opposed the Iraq War and has become an outspoken critic of the prewar intelligence estimates. But Corzine himself has been far from consistent on the subject.
In April of 2003, for instance, Corzine said that he strongly believed Iraq possessed illicit weapons capabilities. “It’s pretty clear they had chemical and biological weapons until the inspectors left in 1998. Given the nature of the regime, I can’t imagine they would just destroy it,” he said at the time. Corzine is one of a handful of partisan Democrats who have called for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
In his farewell speech from the Senate floor, after winning the New Jersey governor’s race in November of 2005, Corzine lamented that he had been unable to increase the minimum wage and introduce legislation banning racial profiling by law-enforcement authorities. Corzine also acknowledged his failures as the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee during the 2004 elections, noting that the party lost four Senate seats during his tenure.
Though he prevailed in New Jersey’s gubernatorial elections, ethics questions shadowed Corzine’s campaign. Among the more damaging revelations was that Corzine had forgiven a $470,000 loan to his erstwhile girlfriend, Carla Katz, who also happened to be the head of the state’s largest employee union, the Communications Workers of America (CWA). Not only did Corzine omit all mention of the loan on his Senate expense reports, but just six months after issuing the loan to Katz, the CWA endorsed his 2000 Senate campaign. Corzine’s scrupulousness was again called into question when news broke that, just over a month after announcing his candidacy for governor, Corzine had invested $7 million in Ichan Partners LP, a privately held hedge fund managed by New Jersey casino operator Carl Ichan. The investment was in direct violation of New Jersey's Conflicts of Interest Law, which prohibits governors from holding financial interests that pose a “reasonable risk of the public perception of a conflict of interest” with gambling companies. Corzine reportedly made $100,000 from his investment. Pressed about his controversial involvement with Ichan, Corzine refused to answer questions about his financial partners.
Corzine’s questionable financial dealings did not end there. After announcing his decision to seek a U.S. Senate seat, Corzine had promised to place his assets into a blind trust so as to avoid potential conflicts of interest. But in 2005, only $86 million of his $262 million holdings was in a blind trust. The Record newspaper of Hackensack, NJ, also reported in 2005 that Corzine, as a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, had voted for a 2004 tax treaty with Japan that earned him a large tax break. Corzine insisted that he had derived no economic benefit from the treaty, but Corzine’s critics disputed that defense, noting that Corzine’s reluctance to disclose his assets made it impossible to come to a clear judgment about the ethicality of his role in the treaty’s enactment. Upon winning the election, Corzine conceded that he faced a sizeable credibility gap on ethics issues. “We have to make it a reality that we are committed to the public trust,” Corzine said. “. . . The public trust needs to be restored, and I have every intention of making sure that occurs. And as I said on election night, I want to be held accountable.”

Tax payer money overseas Mosques
Americans also may be surprised to learn that the United States has been an active participant in mosque construction projects overseas. In April, U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania Alfonso E. Lenhardt helped cut the ribbon at the 12th-century Kizimkazi Mosque, which was refurbished with assistance from the United States under a program to preserve culturally significant buildings. The U.S. government also helped save the Amr Ebn El Aas Mosque in Cairo, which dates back to 642. The mosque's namesake was the Muslim conqueror of Christian Egypt, who built the structure on the site where he had pitched his tent before doing battle with the country's Byzantine rulers. For those who think the Ground Zero Mosque is an example of "Muslim triumphalism" glorifying conquest, the Amr Ebn El Aas Mosque is an example of such a monument - and one paid for with U.S. taxpayer funds.
The mosques being rebuilt by the United States are used for religious worship, which raises important First Amendment questions. U.S. taxpayer money should not be used to preserve and promote Islam, even abroad. In July 2009, the Office of the Inspector General published an audit of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) faith-based and community initiatives that examined whether government funds were being used for religious activities. The auditors found that while USAID was funding some religious activities, officials were "uncertain of whether such uses of Agency funding violate Agency regulations or the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the Constitution" when balanced against foreign-policy objectives.
For example, our government rebuilt the Al Shuhada Mosque in Fallujah, Iraq, expecting such benefits as "stimulating the economy, enhancing a sense of pride in the community, reducing opposition to international relief organizations operating in Fallujah, and reducing incentives among young men to participate in violence or insurgent groups." But Section 205.1(d) of title 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations prohibits USAID funds from being used for the rehabilitation of structures to the extent that those structures are used for "inherently religious activities." It is impossible to separate religion from a mosque; any such projects will necessarily support Islam.

Obama: They talk about me like a dog
Tuesday - Sep 07, 2010, 02:32pm (GMT+5.5)
Washington (IANS)- US President Barack Obama has caused quite a flutter by accusing his Republican opponents of talking about him "like a dog" at a rally to launch his embattled Democratic party's election campaign.
"Some powerful interests who had been dominating the agenda in Washington for a very long time and they're not always happy with me," he said addressing a union crowd on Labour Day Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
"They talk about me like a dog. That's not in my prepared remarks, but it's true," he told the union crowd straying from his prepared remarks to take a more aggressive tone in campaign mode...
"They're betting that between now and November, you'll (voters) come down with a case of amnesia," Obama said in the speech less than two months ahead of midterm elections where Democratic majorities in the House and Senate are on stake.

Obama Will Spend More on Welfare in the Next Year Than Bush Spent on Entire Iraq War, Study Reveals
Wednesday, September 23, 2009
By Fred Lucas, Staff Writer
President Barack Obama making announcement canceling missile defense shield. (AP photo) (CNSNews.com) – As a candidate for president, Barack Obama decried the financial toll that the Iraq war was taking on the economy, but Obama’s proposed spending on welfare through 2010 will eclipse Bush’s war spending by more than $260 billion.
“Because of the Bush-McCain policies, our debt has ballooned,” then-Sen. Barack Obama told a Charleston, W.V., crowd in March 2008. “This is creating problems in our fragile economy. And that kind of debt also places an unfair burden on our children and grandchildren, who will have to repay it.”
During the entire administration of George W. Bush, the Iraq war cost a total of $622 billion, according to the Congressional Research Service.
President Obama’s welfare spending will reach $888 billion in a single fiscal year--2010--more than the Bush administration spent on war in Iraq from the first “shock and awe” attack in 2003 until Bush left office in January.
Obama’s spending proposals call for the largest increases in welfare benefits in U.S. history, according to a report by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. This will lead to a spending total of $10.3 trillion over the next decade on various welfare programs. These include cash payments, food, housing, Medicaid and various social services for low-income Americans and those at 200 percent of the poverty level, or $44,000 for a family of four. Among that total, $7.5 trillion will be federal money and $2.8 trillion will be federally mandated state expenditures.
In that same West Virginia speech last year, Obama said, “When Iraq is costing each household about $100 a month, you’re paying a price for this war.”
The Heritage study says, “Applying that same standard to means-tested welfare spending reveals that welfare will cost each household $560 per month in 2009 and $638 per month in 2010.”
The welfare reform package of 1996 only targeted one program, which was Aid for Families with Dependent Children, pushing work requirements for recipients to encourage them to get off the rolls. There are still 70 different welfare programs spread across 14 different federal agencies, said Robert Rector, senior research fellow in domestic policy studies at the Heritage Foundation, who co-wrote the study.
“The average person says I thought we ended welfare. Well, it’s a good thing we ended it, otherwise we’d be spending some real money,” Rector joked while speaking about the report on Tuesday. “Reform was grossly oversold by Clinton and the Republicans. It reformed one program out of 70. Medicaid, public housing, the Earned Income Tax Credit were not reformed.”
According to his White House budget proposal, President Barack Obama will increase annual federal welfare spending by one-third, from $522.4 billion to $697 billion in his first fiscal year. Adjusted for inflation, the combined two-year increase of $263 billion is greater than any increase in welfare spending in history.
By 2014, annual spending on welfare programs will reach $1 trillion for the fiscal year.
“One in seven in total federal and state dollars now goes to welfare. But this is a completely unknown story,” Rector said. “This is not being reported. No one knows Obama is spending $10 trillion on welfare.”
Welfare spending has taken its toll on the federal debt. Since the beginning of the “war on poverty,” $15.9 trillion has been spent on welfare programs. The total cost of every war in American history, starting with the American Revolution, is $6.4 trillion when adjusted for inflation.
Welfare has been the fastest growing part of the federal government’s spending, increasing by 292 percent from 1989 to 2008. That’s compared to Social Security and Medicare, which grew 213 percent, the study says.
Adjusted for inflation, welfare is 5 percent of the gross domestic product today. It was only 1.2 percent of GDP in 1965, the report says. Also, over the next decade, $1.5 trillion in welfare benefits will be paid to low-skilled immigrants.
Still, high levels of poverty are reflected by the U.S. Census Bureau because the bureau counts only 4 percent of the total welfare spending as income when it calculates poverty. Thus, most discussions on poverty begin on the virtual premise that welfare does not exist, the study says.
“None of the $800 billion being spent is counted as income, so the Census comes back and they say, ‘Oh my goodness, we have 40 million poor people. We need to spend more money,’” Rector explained. “That is a game the taxpayer can never win.”
Changing how the money is spent could go a long way in achieving better results, the study says.
“Annual means tested welfare spending is more than sufficient to eliminate poverty in the United States,” the study reports. “If welfare spending were converted into case benefits, the sum would be nearly four times the amount needed to raise the income of all poor families above the official poverty line.”

Obama and Radical Leftist group
Obama Caught in a Major ACORN Lie
Posted by Jim Hoft on Saturday, February 20, 2010, 9:28 AM
Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) from the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released this video at CPAC of Barack Obama discussing his close partnership with ACORN. Obama talked about his long relationship with ACORN privately in this video before the 2008 election:
“When I ran project vote, the voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it. Once I was elected there wasn’t a campaign that ACORN worked on down in Springfield that I wasn’t right there with you. Since I have been in the United States Senate I’ve been always a partner with ACORN as well. I’ve been fighting with ACORN, along side ACORN, on issues you care about my entire career.”
But, when Barack Obama was confronted about his relationship with ACORN publicly before the election he had an entirely different story. This is what he said in October 2008:
Reporter: Senator McCain today said there was voter fraud going on in the battleground states. ACORN has been tampering with America’s most precious right. There has to be a full investigation and he also said you need to disclose your full relationship with ACORN. I’m wondering if you have any reaction to Senator McCain’s charge?
Barack Obama: Well, first of all my relationship with ACORN is pretty straightforward. It’s probably 13 years ago when I was still practicing law, I represented ACORN and my partner in that investigation was the US Justice department in having Illinois implement what was called the motor voter law, to make sure people could go to DMV’s and driver license facilities to get registered. It wasn’t being implemented. That was my relationship and is my relationship to ACORN. There is an ACORN organization in Chicago. They’ve been active. As an elected offiical, I’ve had interactions with them. But, they’re not advising my campaign. We’ve got the best voter registration in politics right now and we don’t need ACORN’s help.
For the record…
ACORN is the largest radical leftist group in America today.
This radical group worked closely with the Obama camp during the election but, the community organizing group was not open about the relationship. The photo below was scrubbed from the ACORN website before the election:

One of Barack Obama’s first big “community organizer” jobs involved ACORN in 1992. He worked along side ACORN before he became an elected official. Obama also trained ACORN employees. He represented ACORN in court. Obama worked with and protested with ACORN. His campaign donated $800,000 to ACORN in 2008 for voter registration efforts.
And, ACORN even canvassed for Obama in 2008.
In 2009 Obama promoted a top ACORN operative, Patrick Gaspard, who’s oranization was fined $775,000 for election violations, to a top post in the White House. Gespard is helping shape domestic policy today.
President Barack Obama’s political director failed to disclose that he was slated to receive a nearly $40,000 payout from a large labor union while he was working in the White House.
Patrick Gaspard, who served as the political director for the Service Employees International Union local 1199, received $37,071.46 in “carried over leave and vacation” from the union in 2009, but he did not disclose the agreement to receive the payment on his financial disclosure forms filed with the White House.
In a section on his financial disclosure where agreements or arrangements for payment by a former employer must be disclosed, Gaspard checked a box indicating that he had nothing to report.
Bill Burton, a White House spokesman, told POLITICO Monday that Gaspard was in the process of correcting his disclosure form to reflect that he did in fact have an agreement for severance.
“We have made the small administrative change to this year's and last year's forms to indicate that part of the final payment to Patrick reflected their typical severance of one week of pay for each of his nine years of service at Local 1199 of SEIU,” Burton wrote POLITICO in an e-mailed statement.
Such financial disclosures are governed by federal law, but Stan Brand, a former House general counsel and ethics expert, said the Justice Department is unlikely to pursue an investigation unless they suspected a “knowing or willful” intent to deceive.
Gaspard’s omission is a potentially embarrassing episode for the Obama administration, which has made a high priority of ethics.
“They’ve made ethics a fetish and they have all kinds of people over there with experience, so I don’t know how they missed this one,” Brand said.
Gaspard spent nine years at 1199 SEIU, a major labor union in New York. Gaspard also worked for Obama’s campaign, and later worked for the transition team, where he earned $11,500, according to the financial disclosure form he filed this year. He was pulling a salary from SEIU until Jan. 16, 2009, shortly before Obama was inaugurated.
Gaspard, who made $172,200 in 2009, has from $35,000 to $80,000 in credit card debt and student loans, according to his financial disclosures.
This SEIU payout was first raised in early June by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), the top GOP lawmaker on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He sent a letter to the White House asking for information about the payment. They have yet to respond.

Obama and the Housing Market

This case has received a good deal of press and blogger attention because one of the plaintiffs’ lawyers was Barack Obama, then just a couple of years out of law school.
U.S. District Court Judge Ruben Castillo certified the plaintiffs’ suit as a class action on June 30, 1995. Buycks-Roberson v. Citibank Fed. Sav. Bank, 162 F.R.D. 322 (N.D. Ill. 1995). Also on June 30, Judge Castillo granted Plaintiffs’ motion to compel discovery of a sample of Defendant-bank’s loan application files. Buycks-Roberson v. Citibank Fed. Sav. Bank, 162 F.R.D. 338 (N.D. Ill. 1995).
The parties settled the case on May 12, 1998, with an agreement that provided for waiver of some fees for class members, should they reapply for a loan, and also for various procedures to ensure that Citibank followed its own loan policies in a race neutral way. They count on corporations settling rather than facing lengthy litigation.
Here are the lawyers listed in the legal briefs, including Barack Hussein Obama:
Obama, Barack H. (Illinois)
FH-IL-0011-9000
Wickert, John Henry (Illinois)
FH-IL-0011-0007 FH-IL-0011-0008 FH-IL-0011-9000
In the Dismissal of appeals by Citibanks the following people are listed as being the plaintiffs:
Selma Buycks-Roberson
Calvin Roberson
Renee Brooks
Citibank was forced to pay the lawyers, including Barack Hussein Obama, $950,000 plus they were forced to loosen loan requirements which led directly to the mortgage crisis. This was part of the strategy to overwhelm the system, to bankrupt the system in an attempt to create a crisis.

I had a say in the politics in Illinois. When I went to the state legislature, I worked with Tom Balanoff in SEIU to make sure that children who didn’t have health care received it. And we made sure that hospitals report on the quality of care, the staffing ratios that they had set up, and now we’re working together at the federal level to make sure that all Americans, not just some Americans, are allowed to prosper.

The oratorical skills White House hopeful Barack Obama has shown on the stump — and in his “There’s not a black America and white America … there’s the United States of America” speech — would seem to make him a natural for wowing juries.
So why did Obama never make impassioned speeches in court when he returned to Chicago from Harvard Law School in the early ’90s to, as his Web site says, “practice as a civil rights lawyer”?
A review of the cases Obama worked on during his brief legal career shows he played the “strong, silent type” in court, introducing himself and his client, then stepping aside to let other lawyers do the talking…
[After praising Obama for suing on behalf of ACORN for Motor Voter, the following is cited as another of his brilliant victories:]
Fought red-lining
Obama represented Calvin Roberson in a 1994 lawsuit against Citibank, charging the bank systematically denied mortgages to African-American applicants and others from minority neighborhoods.
“I don’t recall him ever standing up and giving an impassioned speech — it was a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff,” said Fay Clayton, the lead lawyer on the case.
“He was the very junior lawyer in that case,” said attorney Robert Kriss. “He had just graduated from law school. I don’t recall him being in court at any time I was there. I was the lead lawyer for Citibank and he was not very visible to me.”
Kriss, Clayton and every other co-counsel and opposing counsel interviewed for this story praised Obama’s legal ability, temperament and everything about his courtroom demeanor, even though, they agree, he didn’t say much in the courtroom. Many are now donors to his campaign.
On Feb. 23, 1995, Obama billed 2 hours and 50 minutes for an appearance before Judge Ruben Castillo on behalf of his client, and also for reviewing some documents in advance of a deposition. That cost Citibank — which ultimately had to pay the winning side’s fees — $467 at Obama’s hourly rate of $165.
Miner commanded the higher rate of $285 an hour. During his appearance before the judge, Obama said he would need more time to file a response to a motion, and the judge agreed. That was all Obama said during the half-hour hearing.
His final bill on the case was 138 hours, or $23,000…

New York Times:
New Agency Proposed to Oversee Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae
By STEPHEN LABATON
September 11, 2003
The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.
Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.
The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.
The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt — is broken. A report by outside investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors, and critics have said Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising interest rates.
”There is a general recognition that the supervisory system for housing-related government-sponsored enterprises neither has the tools, nor the stature, to deal effectively with the current size, complexity and importance of these enterprises,” Treasury Secretary John W. Snow told the House Financial Services Committee in an appearance with Housing Secretary Mel Martinez, who also backed the plan.
Mr. Snow said that Congress should eliminate the power of the president to appoint directors to the companies, a sign that the administration is less concerned about the perks of patronage than it is about the potential political problems associated with any new difficulties arising at the companies.
The administration’s proposal, which was endorsed in large part today by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, would not repeal the significant government subsidies granted to the two companies. And it does not alter the implicit guarantee that Washington will bail the companies out if they run into financial difficulty; that perception enables them to issue debt at significantly lower rates than their competitors. Nor would it remove the companies’ exemptions from taxes and antifraud provisions of federal securities laws.
The proposal is the opening act in one of the biggest and most significant lobbying battles of the Congressional session.
After the hearing, Representative Michael G. Oxley, chairman of the Financial Services Committee, and Senator Richard Shelby, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, announced their intention to draft legislation based on the administration’s proposal. Industry executives said Congress could complete action on legislation before leaving for recess in the fall.
”The current regulator does not have the tools, or the mandate, to adequately regulate these enterprises,” Mr. Oxley said at the hearing. ”We have seen in recent months that mismanagement and questionable accounting practices went largely unnoticed by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight,” the independent agency that now regulates the companies.
”These irregularities, which have been going on for several years, should have been detected earlier by the regulator,” he added.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, which is part of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, was created by Congress in 1992 after the bailout of the savings and loan industry and concerns about regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which buy mortgages from lenders and repackage them as securities or hold them in their own portfolios.
At the time, the companies and their allies beat back efforts for tougher oversight by the Treasury Department, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or the Federal Reserve. Supporters of the companies said efforts to regulate the lenders tightly under those agencies might diminish their ability to finance loans for lower-income families. This year, however, the chances of passing legislation to tighten the oversight are better than in the past.
Reflecting the changing political climate, both Fannie Mae and its leading rivals applauded the administration’s package. The support from Fannie Mae came after a round of discussions between it and the administration and assurances from the Treasury that it would not seek to change the company’s mission.
After those assurances, Franklin D. Raines, Fannie Mae’s chief executive, endorsed the shift of regulatory oversight to the Treasury Department, as well as other elements of the plan.
”We welcome the administration’s approach outlined today,” Mr. Raines said. The company opposes some smaller elements of the package, like one that eliminates the authority of the president to appoint 5 of the company’s 18 board members.
Company executives said that the company preferred having the president select some directors. The company is also likely to lobby against the efforts that give regulators too much authority to approve its products.
Freddie Mac, whose accounting is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission and a United States attorney in Virginia, issued a statement calling the administration plan a ”responsible proposal.”
The stocks of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae fell while the prices of their bonds generally rose. Shares of Freddie Mac fell $2.04, or 3.7 percent, to $53.40, while Fannie Mae was down $1.62, or 2.4 percent, to $66.74. The price of a Fannie Mae bond due in March 2013 rose to 97.337 from 96.525.Its yield fell to 4.726 percent from 4.835 percent on Tuesday.
Fannie Mae, which was previously known as the Federal National Mortgage Association, and Freddie Mac, which was the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, have been criticized by rivals for exerting too much influence over their regulators.
”The regulator has not only been outmanned, it has been outlobbied,” said Representative Richard H. Baker, the Louisiana Republican who has proposed legislation similar to the administration proposal and who leads a subcommittee that oversees the companies. ”Being underfunded does not explain how a glowing report of Freddie’s operations was released only hours before the managerial upheaval that followed. This is not world-class regulatory work.”
Significant details must still be worked out before Congress can approve a bill. Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.
”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”
Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.
”I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,” Mr. Watt said.

Watt said.

Carly Fiorina for Senate vote out Barbara Boxer
John J. Miller a national political reporter for National Review talking about Senator Boxer and her describing intimate scenes in her book A Time To Run, a novel by the liberal Democratic senator from California is a way to begin learning about your California Senator.
Go to: http://old.nationalreview.com/miller/miller200511160834.asp -- It is Great!
"In a note at the front of the book, Boxer says that she wrote A Time To Run to describe "the true world of politics in all its glory and all of its ugliness." Even this sentence is a bad one: The phrasing should be either "all of its glory and all of its ugliness" or "all its glory and all its ugliness. One thing's for sure: Boxer has the ugliness part down pat. Reading the California senator’s novel is ugly work, but I’ve done it.
"Have you ever watched a movie trailer that's amusing, but which also leaves you with the sense that you've just seen all the good parts? Think of what you're reading now as the same sort of thing, except that it covers the bad parts of A Time To Run, the new novel by Barbara Boxer, the liberal Democratic senator from California.
"Of course, saying that A Time To Run has a few bad parts really doesn't give Boxer enough credit — the whole book is stupendously awful, from the first page to the last. As a service to you, dear reader, I have slogged my way through it, in order to share with you the worst of the worst.
"You don't need to know much about the characters or the plot, except that the central figure is a liberal Democratic senator from California (sound familiar?) who must decide how she is going to respond to a Republican Supreme Court nomination. And thus, on the opening pages of A Time To Run, we encounter Boxer's utter lack of imagination:"
Now Boxer's policy positions and voting record
Abortion and the Rights of the Unborn: In December 1995, September 1996, May 1997, October 1999, and October 2003, Boxer voted against legislation to ban (except where the mother's safety might require it) the late-term abortion procedure commonly known as partial-birth abortion. In March 2004 she voted against the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which proposed to make it an added criminal offense for someone to injure or kill a fetus while carrying out a crime on a pregnant woman. In July 2006 she voted against notifying the parents of minors who have gotten out-of-state abortions. In October 2007 she voted against barring the Department of Health and Human Services from making grants to organizations that perform abortions. In March 2008 she voted NO on prohibiting minors from crossing state lines in order to get abortions.
Marriage: In September 1996 Boxer voted against a bill defining marriage strictly as a legal union between one man and one woman. That same month, and again in June 2006, she voted against bills that would have prohibited same-sex marriage.
Welfare: Boxer voted against the Welfare Reform Act of 1996, which ultimately succeeded in moving large numbers of people off of public assistance and into jobs.
Education: In July 1994 Boxer voted NO on requiring public schools to allow voluntary prayer. In July 1996 she voted NO on allocating $75 million for abstinence education. In September 1997 she voted against the implementation of school vouchers in Washington, DC.
Illegal Immigration: In May 2006 Boxer voted in favor of allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security. That same month, she voted YES on an Immigration Reform Bill allowing illegal aliens who have resided in the U.S. for five years to be eligible for citizenship after they pass a background check, pay back taxes, maintain a job for six additional years, learn English, and pay a fine. In October 2006 she voted in favor of a bill authorizing the construction of 700 miles of double-layered fencing between the U.S. and Mexico. In June 2007 she voted in favor of an amendment placing an expiration date on a point-based immigration system (i.e., a system that seeks to ensure that people with skills that society needs are given preference for entry into the United States); she instead advocated a system focusing on the reunification of family members, even if that meant permitting the relatives of illegal aliens to join the latter in America. That same month, she voted against an amendment to prohibit illegal aliens convicted of such crimes as aggravated felonies, domestic violence, stalking, violation of protection orders, crimes against children, or the illegal purchase or sale of firearms, from gaining legal status. In July 2007 she voted against funding for "Real ID" legislation mandating higher standards for State driver's licenses and identification documents. In March 2008 she voted YES on continuing to provide federal funds for "sanctuary cities" that have pledged not to abide by immigration law.
Fossil Fuels: In April 2002, March 2005, and November 2005, Boxer voted to keep Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) closed to oil drilling. In June 2007 she voted against permitting natural gas exploration and extraction off the coast of Virginia. In March 2009, Boxer joined Senator John Kerry in declaring that the United States should adopt the Obama administration's cap-and-trade proposal to reduce carbon emissions, even though such a system was certain to cause huge increases in gasoline and electricity prices.
Nuclear Energy: In July 1996 Boxer voted against the creation of an interim storage facility for nuclear waste near Yucca Mountain, Nevada.
Taxes: In April 1998 Boxer voted NO on requiring a super-majority in the Senate for raising taxes. In July 1999 she voted against a bill calling for $792 billion in tax cuts over a ten-year period. In July 2000 she voted against a bill to phase out estate and gift taxes by 2010. In May 2001 she voted against $1.35 trillion in federal tax cuts over an 11-year period. In May 2003 she voted against $350 billion in proposed tax reductions. In November 2005 she voted to raise the top individual income tax rate of 39.6 percent for millionaires, and to impose higher tax rates on capital gains and dividends as well. That same month, she voted against extending a number of tax cuts for five years. In February 2006 she voted NO on retaining reduced taxes on capital gains and dividends. In May 2006 she voted against $69.96 billion in tax credits and cuts through 2010. In June 2006 she voted NO on permanently repealing the "death tax." In August 2006 she voted NO on making cuts in estate taxes permanent. In March 2008 she voted YES on increasing the tax rate for people earning over $1 million annually.
Supreme Court: As a House member, Boxer in 1991 sought to thwart President George H.W. Bush's nomination of Clarence Thomas to the U.S. Supreme Court. As a senator, Boxer in September 2005 voted against the confirmation of President George W. Bush's nominee for Supreme Court Chief Justice, John Roberts. In January 2006 she voted against the confirmation of Samuel Alito, Jr., to be Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
Patriot Act: In October 2001 Boxer voted to pass the Patriot Act anti-terrorism legislation. In March 2006 she voted in favor of a bill reauthorizing and extending certain provisions of the Act.
Iraq War: In October 2002 Boxer voted against the joint Congressional resolution authorizing the use of force against Iraq. In her statement from the Senate floor opposing the resolution, she insisted that the task of dismantling Iraq's suspected weapons of mass destruction was to be left to the United Nations, and voiced her view that America under the Bush administration was no longer a "beacon of hope" but of "fear." In December 2007 Boxer voted in favor of an amendment to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq within 90 days, "with the exception of those troops needed for temporary purposes to conduct targeted operations against … terrorist organizations, to provide security for U.S. government personnel, [and] to provide training to members of the Iraqi Security Forces."
Guantanamo Bay: In September 2006 Boxer voted YES on preserving habeas corpus for the Guantanamo detainees who had been captured by the U.S. in the war on terror.
Military Commissions: In September 2006 Boxer voted in favor of an amendment designating December 31, 2011 as the end date of the President's power to establish new military commissions to try the cases of unlawful enemy combatants captured in the war on terror.
Government Reform: In October 1997 Boxer voted to pass the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill. In February 2002 she voted NO on requiring a photo ID (not just a signature) for voter registration. In July 2007 she voted NO on requiring a photo ID to cast a ballot in federal elections. In September 2007 she voted YES on granting the District of Columbia a seat in Congress.
Guns: In March 2004 and July 2005 Boxer voted NO on banning lawsuits against gun manufacturers for gun violence.
In December 2005 Boxer made public a letter she had written to "presidential scholars," in which she solicited their opinions about whether President Bush's use of a National Security Agency program to monitor the international telephone calls of individuals with known ties to al Qaeda and similar terrorist groups constituted an "impeachable offense."

Vote for Carly Fiorina
Unlike Barbara Boxer, Carly Fiorina knows firsthand what it takes to create jobs. She knows that the best way to spur job creation is to get government out of the way
Today, our state’s unemployment rate stands at a sky-high 12.3 percent, and there are more than 2.2 million Californians out of work. There’s no doubt our state is facing a crisis of joblessness.
Our leaders in the U.S. Senate have the opportunity to fight back. But instead of championing policies that support job creators that will help put Americans back to work, Barbara Boxer has throughout her 28 years in Washington forced through job-killing bills that raise our taxes and make it harder for companies to hire workers.
Carly Fiorina, on the other hand, knows firsthand what it takes to create jobs. She knows that the best way to spur job creation is to get government out of the way so that small businesses – which create two-thirds of our nation’s new jobs – have the freedom and the ability to hire.
Take a look at who’s fighting for you:
Carly is opposed to tax increases on hard-working Americans, which will only further slow down economic recovery and expand government even more.
Boxer has voted for more than $1 trillion in higher taxes over her career in Washington. Some of the higher taxes she’s supported include the gas tax, the income tax and the death tax. And, she’s opposed expanding tax credits for adoption and children.
Carly has called for a two-year payroll tax holiday to give small businesses and start-ups an incentive to hire unemployed workers.
Boxer has repeatedly supported higher taxes on small businesses and entrepreneurs, inhibiting them from growing and succeeding.
Carly believes government can best support economic growth by getting out of the way of small businesses and entrepreneurs that are trying to grow and hire.
Boxer voted for an $862 billion big-government stimulus plan that cost taxpayers money; but since its passage, California has lost hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Carly has proposed creating “Jobs for Americans” Zones that will help lure manufacturing jobs back to America through targeted, substantial federal tax benefits.
Boxer has supported increasing regulations on American companies, making it harder for them to do business in the United States and driving jobs overseas.
Carly opposes the largest tax increase in American history scheduled to go into effect January 2011. This tax increase will cost the average middle-income family in California more than $1,600 every year.
Boxer supports this tax increase and has made no proposal as a U.S. senator to ensure it does not go into effect.

Sharron Angle for Senate vote out Harry Reid
*Sharron Angle places the blame for Nevada's devastated economy directly at the feet of Harry Reid. Reid's destructive policies as Majority Leader has caused Nevada to have the highest unemployment in the nation, the highest foreclosure rate in the nation, and home values that have been cut in half.
*Sharron Angle for Senate. Nancy Pelosi, President Obama and Harry Reid have devastated the nation with their failed economic policies of reckless spending and taxpayer-funded bailouts. “With tax-payer funded bailouts for Wall Street fat-cats, a $787 billion stimulus plan that has failed miserably, and a massive increase in our deficit, it’s no wonder Nevada’s unemployment rate has skyrocketed to over 14 percent
*“Once again, Harry Reid’s own words confirm what countless Nevada voter already know – he is completely and utterly shameless, and he will say or do anything to win reelection. The irony is that whether he’s invoking race to win Hispanic votes, suggesting the President’s skin color made him a better candidate, saying tourists visiting Capitol Hill ‘smell,’ or calling the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ‘incompetent,’ few politicians are better known for their inappropriate rhetoric than Harry Reid. Over the years, Reid’s rhetoric has gone beyond embarrassing as he has directly undermined and attacked the efforts of our troops serving in harm’s way. If Harry Reid had his way, Iraq would have been turned over to the terrorists instead of to the successful leadership of General David Petraeus, yet he still refuses to apologize for his partisan grandstanding. Harry Reid ought to be ashamed of himself, but when someone has been in Washington as long as he has, ‘shame’ is no longer a word he’s familiar with.” – Brian Walsh, NRSC Communications Director
BACKGROUND ON REID WHILE WORKING FOR THE PEOPLE OF NEVADA…… http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2282
Over the course of his political career, Reid has been implicated in several serious ethics scandals:
In a 1998 real estate deal engineered by Jay Brown (a former casino lawyer and a longtime friend of Reid), the senator purchased two undeveloped residential-property lots on Las Vegas’ rapidly growing outskirts for approximately $400,000. Reid bought one of the parcels on his own, and the second one jointly with Brown. One of the sellers was a developer who was benefiting from a government land swap supported by Reid. In 2001 Reid sold both of his lots for $400,000 to a limited liability corporation created by Jay Brown, but he never disclosed the sale on his annual public ethics report. Nor did he inform Congress that he held any stake in Brown's company. As far as Congress knew, Reid was still the owner of the two lots he had purchased three years earlier.
In 2004 Brown's company, having negotiated with local officials to rezone the property for a shopping center, sold the land to other developers in a deal that earned Reid $1.1 million -- a $700,000 profit on his initial investment. Reid falsely reported the transaction to Congress as a personal land sale.
In 2001 Reid paid cash for a $750,000 condominium at the Washington, D.C. Ritz-Carlton where he resides. When he subsequently gave Christmas bonuses (in 2002, 2004, and 2005) to the doorman and other support staff at his building, he used $3,300 in campaign donations rather than his own separate funds -- in contravention of federal election law. Reid’s campaign falsely listed the bonuses as campaign “salary” expenditures for two of the years in question, and as a “contribution” for the other year. When news of Reid’s misappropriation of campaign funds became public in 2006, the senator’s office said the listing as salary had been a “clerical error.” Added Reid: “I am reimbursing the campaign from my own pocket to prevent this issue from being used in the current campaign season to deflect attention from Republican failures.”
In a $286 billion federal transportation bill passed by Congress in 2005, Reid secured $300 million in earmarks for projects in his home state, including $18 million to fund the construction of a bridge spanning the Colorado River. On the Arizona side of that bridge, Reid owned 160 acres of undeveloped land around which many new housing units were being built. Noting that the new bridge would cause the value of Reid’s property to skyrocket, Norman Ornstein, co-author of a book that examines earmarking, said: “It's a really bad idea for lawmakers to earmark projects when they have a financial interest that could in any way be affected by it.” Steve Ellis, vice president of Taxpayers for Common Sense, noted: “Unwittingly, the taxpayer may have helped inflate the value” of Reid's land.
Between 2002 and 2006, Reid intervened to gain monumental government concessions on behalf of a powerful Nevada land developer, Harvey Whittemore, who wished to build thousands of homes and numerous golf courses on 43,000 acres of barren land in an area called Coyote Springs, an hour northeast of Las Vegas. This land had a number of federal restrictions on its use: One-fourth of it was off-limits to developers because of federal protections for an “endangered” species of desert tortoise that dwelt there; another one-fourth was government-owned and was subject to a federal power-line right of way; and the territory overall was rife with streams and washes that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had designated as crucial to the health of the desert’s ecosystem, and was therefore generally off-limits to construction.
Thanks to Senator Reid’s intercession, however, the Bureau of Land Management agreed to relocate the tortoises to an adjacent federal preserve, thereby opening that portion of Coyote Springs to developers.
In 2002 Reid inserted some obscure provisions into a land-management bill that relocated the aforementioned power corridor, thereby apparently freeing Whittemore to build on the 10,500-acre parcel he coveted. But the Senate's Energy and Natural Resources Committee balked at the deal, and Reid in turn negotiated an alternate arrangement where Whittemore was permitted to purchase the land at a fair market rate while the government relocated the corridor.
Finally, in 2005 Reid and fellow Nevada Senator John Ensign used their influence with the EPA to eliminate the environmental-impact obstacle.
In return for Reid’s efforts, Whittemore gave tens of thousands of dollars to the senator’s political campaigns and to his leadership fund (which Reid used to help bankroll the campaigns of fellow Democrats). In addition, Whittemore gave $5,000 to each of Reid's two sons, to finance their efforts to win local political offices. The developer also hired one of those sons as his personal lawyer to represent him in his dealings with federal officials.
Between 2001 and 2004, Reid wrote at least four letters pressing the Bush administration to take action on certain issues of importance to Indian tribes that were clients of the lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Abramoff, whose staff was in regular contact with Reid’s office, lobbied on behalf of tribes involved in the gambling casino industry; he would later be convicted in federal court for defrauding those tribes. Each time Reid wrote a letter on behalf of the Indian tribes, he collected donations from Abramoff and his lobbying partners and clients around the same time period. All told, these donations totaled nearly $68,000. Also between 2001 and 2004, Reid received more than $50,000 directly from four Indian tribes that were clients of Abramoff.

Reid Said The Death Of Senator Kennedy Was Going To Help The Democrats Pass Health Care. “You just gotta love Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for an astonishing burst of candor the other day in an interview with the Reno Gazette Journal. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy had just barely been laid to rest when the Nevada Democrat blurted out this about the impact of Kennedy’s death on pending health-care legislation: ‘I think it’s going to help us. He hasn’t been around for some time. We’re going to have a new chairman of that committee. It’ll be, I don’t know for sure, but I think Sen. [Chris] Dodd. He has a right to take it. He has nothing to do with news coverage or the opinion pages of the Review-Journal. Vote for Sharron Angle.
Healthcare
Sharron Angle has proposed the following solutions:
•Repeal and replace Obamacare
•Elimination of coverage mandates
•Expanded client pools
•Tort reform
•Allow citizens to purchase insurance across state lines
•Create tax credited health savings accounts
Energy Policy
America must build upon her vast coal and natural gas resources to expand our domestic oil resources.
We have the potential both on shore and off to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. This effort will also provide high paying jobs and expand the economy.
America’s policy should be to enforce the rules and regulations currently on the books with respect to off shore drilling. As a result of the recent oil blowout in the Gulf, there is an understandable temptation to overreact and end off shore drilling, but this is the wrong course to take at a critical time.
The Gulf oil spill occurred because British Petroleum took a high risk approach in its drilling program while cutting corners. By contrast, many other companies also drilling in the Gulf have taken a low-risk approach without incident.
This is an indictment of the Federal Government’s Mineral Management agency that is charged with overseeing offshore drilling and protecting our environment. It is not a reason to end off shore drilling and potentially cost Americans thousands of jobs in an already weakened economy.
Taxation
In the Nevada State Legislature, Sharron Angle was consistently the only vote against unnecessary tax increases and voted against more than 100 attempts to increase taxes and fees.
She sponsored the Angle Property Tax Restraint Initiative (aka Nevada's Prop 13) which placed a hard cap on property tax increases that future Legislatures could not repeal. Sharron Angle was also a co-sponsor of Tax and Spend Control for Nevada, which imposed a constitutional measure to limit government spending.
Sharron Angle has signed the National Taxpayers Pledge to vote against tax and fee increases.
Social Security
We must keep the promise of Social Security by redeeming the "IOU's" that have been written to the Social Security Trust Fund and then putting that money in a lock box that cannot ever be raided again by Washington politicians. The only way we pay for it is by cutting spending.
We should also create personalized accounts for the next generation that cannot be raided.
National Security and Public Protection
Sharron Angle is a staunch supporter of the U.S. military, and will work tirelessly to secure the peace and security of our country.
She supports strong sanctions against rogue nations that export, support or harbor terrorism and believes that we must do whatever necessary to protect America from terrorism.
Active Military and Veterans
Sharron Angle strongly supports improved compensation and care for those serving in the U.S. military, as well as their families and veterans. TRICARE for the military must be protected from attacks that dilute quality of care and increase costs.
Sharron has a record of supporting the military and has received the Certificate of Appreciation from the Southern Chapter of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America).
Border Security/Illegal Immigration
The United States must secure its borders immediately and enforce the laws that are already on the books.
Economic Development and Government Regulation
The fastest way to get the economy moving again is to cut spending, pay back the national debt, and make permanent the Bush Tax Cuts which are due to expire in just a few months. Steps like these would go a long way toward giving the business community the confidence they need to start creating jobs and hiring again.
Private Property
Sharron Angle respects the rights of the individual to own property. She led the effort for the Angle Property Tax Restraint Initiative, which placed a hard cap on property tax increases which future legislatures could not reverse. Sharron also co-sponsored the initiative that protected property owners from the potential abuses of eminent domain.
Right to Bear Arms, Second Amendment
Sharron Angle supports the individual constitutionally protected right of the people to keep and bear arms for security and defense of self, family, property, as well as for other lawful purposes.
Sharron has been endorsed by the Gun Owners of America and has an "A" rating with the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Family Values
Sharron Angle recognizes the traditional family as the foundation of America's society.
Sharron worked to pass the Constitutional Protection of Marriage Act in Nevada, which defines marriage as between one man and one woman. Sharron Angle has been endorsed by Family PAC Federal and Concerned Women for America.
Protection of Life
Sharron Angle believes all human life is precious, regardless of location, age, infirmity, or degree of dependence.
Sharron has been endorsed by Phyllis Schlafly, Life and Liberty PAC, and Concerned Women for America.
Education
As a teacher and grandmother of ten, there is no one more committed to education than Sharron Angle.
Sharron believes education decisions are best made at the state and local level by parents and teachers who are invested in the lives of the children whom they have been tasked with teaching. Sharron supports putting that money as close to the state and local level as possible.
Campaign Finance Reform
Sharron Angle believes we must close the loopholes in the campaign finance system while requiring immediate disclosure of large contributions, via the internet.
Sharron was first elected in 1992 to the Nye County School Board of Trustees. The family moved back to Reno in 1995 and in 1998 she was elected to the Nevada State Assembly where she faithfully served until 2006 fighting for smaller government, lower taxes, and a better Nevada for future generations. She is proud of her past chairwomanship of We the People Nevada PAC that sponsored the Property Tax Restraint Initiative.
A true protector of the Nevada Constitution, Sharron has fought and won judicial battles to protect Nevadan's constitutional rights. In 2003 while serving as the Minority Whip in the Nevada State Assembly, Sharron challenged the Governor's proposed massive $800 million tax hike. Supported by Nevada's constitutional requirement that all tax increases be approved by a two-thirds super majority, battle lines were drawn between the Republicans in the Assembly and the Governor. Sharron and fourteen other courageous Republicans consistently voted against the tax measure through the end of the regular session of the legislature and on through two special sessions. The Governor then sued the legislature in Angle v Guinn to force a decision by the Nevada Supreme Court. The Court over-ruled the two-thirds requirement which meant the taxes were to be imposed through a simple majority rather than by two-thirds vote. Using her own funds, Sharron hired Dr. John Eastman of the Claremont Institute to defend the Nevada's Constitution against this injury. Angle and Eastman took this case to Federal District Court in Nevada, which ended up referring the case to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, then finally to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The attention from Angle v Guinn resulted in the members of the Nevada Supreme Court which made that ruling either retired or were replaced through election defeat. Subsequently the new Court reversed the decision in 2007 reinstating the two-thirds requirement in the Constitution. In recognition of her fight to protect the Constitution, Sharron received the prestigious Claremont Institute Ronald Reagan Freedom Medallion for Courageous Client in 2004.
Though this was a personally costly case for Sharron to defend, this is precisely what she believes the founding fathers meant when they said we must "pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor" to protect our freedom and liberty.
In addition to her proud service in the Nevada legislature, Sharron has been an active member of the Republican Party for many years. She currently serves on the Nevada State Central Committee and has been the chairman of the Washoe County GOP precinct organization effort.
Sharron Angle is also a proud member of the Gun Owners of America, National Right to Life Committee, Concerned Women for America, Nevada Republican Assembly, Washoe County Republican Party, and Fellowship Community Church.

So we’ve made great progress, and we’re going to continue to do so.” (Senator Harry Reid Press Conference, 12/6/09)

In December 2009, Reid Compared Republicans Demanding Health Care Reform Be Done Slowly To Those Who Didn’t Want To End Slavery. HARRY REID: “All Republicans could come up with is this -- slow down, stop everything, let’s start over. If you think you heard these same excuses before, you’re right. This country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said, slow down, it’s too early, let’s wait. Things aren’t bad enough.” (Fox News, “Special Report,” 12/7/09)

Either him or U.S. Sen. [Tom] Harkin, whichever one wants it can have it.’” (Editorial, “Reid Sinks His Own Case,” The Boston Herald, 9/4/09)
Reid Told An Executive Who Works At The Las Vegas Review Journal, “I Hope You Go Out Of Business.” “On Wednesday, before he addressed a Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Reid joined the chamber’s board members for a meet-’n’-greet and a photo. One of the last in line was the Review-Journal’s director of advertising, Bob Brown, a hard-working Nevadan who toils every day on behalf of advertisers. He has nothing to do with news coverage or the opinion pages of the Review-Journal. Yet, as Bob shook hands with our senior U.S. senator in what should have been nothing but a gracious business setting, Reid said: ‘I hope you go out of business.’” (Sherman Frederick, “Enough Is Enough, Harry,” Las Vegas Review Journal, 8/30/09)
In December 2008, When The Capitol Visitor Center Opened Reid Said He Was Glad He Wasn’t Going To Have To Smell The Tourists Anymore. “Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid defended himself Wednesday over a joking comment that tourists to the Capitol sometimes smell. Turns out many people weren’t amused. The Nevada Democrat has been attacked on blogs, editorial pages and letters to the editor since his remark last week: ‘In the summertime, because of the high humidity and how hot it gets here, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol.’” (Erica Werner, “Reid Tries To Explain ‘Smell The Tourists Comment,” The Associated Press, 12/10/08)

In 2008, Harry Reid Told Senator Lieberman, “You Know, Joe, I Can’t Stand John McCain.” “Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., defended Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman on Wednesday after the former Democratic vice presidential nominee accepted a speaking slot at next month’s Republican convention in Minnesota. ‘He has a close personal relationship with John McCain. I don’t fully understand why he does,’ said Reid, who said Lieberman called Tuesday from the Republic of Georgia to alert him to the move. ‘I told him last night, “You know, Joe, I can’t stand John McCain.” He said, “I know you feel that way,”‘ Reid said.” (Molly Ball, “Reid Shares Senate Ideas,” Las Vegas Review Journal, 8/21/08)
In April 2007, Harry Reid Said The Iraq War Was Lost. HARRY REID: “Now, I believe, myself, that the secretary of state, secretary of defense, and you have to make your own decision as to what the president knows, that this war is lost.” (Fox News, “Special Report,” 6/30/09)

In May 2005, Reid Told A Group Of Students In Las Vegas That President Bush Was A “Loser.” “After accusing President Bush of lying about his role in a fight over judicial filibusters, Sen. Harry Reid last week called the president a ‘loser.’ And Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan? He’s a ‘political hack,’ according to the formerly soft-spoken Nevada Democrat. . . . ‘I think this guy is a loser,’ Reid told students in Las Vegas.” (Laurie Kellman, “Senate Democrats’ Soft-Spoken New Leader Reveals Sharp Tongue,” The Associated Press, 5/10/05)
In 2005, Reid Called Alan Greenspan “One Of The Biggest Political Hacks We Have Seen In Washington” Harry Reid: “[I]’m not a big Greenspan fan . . . . I voted against him the last two times. . . . I think [Alan Greenspan’s] one of the biggest political hacks we have in Washington.” (CNN’s “Inside Politics,” 3/3/05)
In 2004, Reid Called Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas An “Embarrassment.” NBC’s Tim Russert: “Why couldn’t you accept Clarence Thomas?” Harry Reid: “I think that he has been an embarrassment to the Supreme Court. I think that his opinions are poorly written. I don’t – I just don’t think that he’s done a good job as a Supreme Court justice.” (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 12/5/04)
